Patterns for plank flooring. With rectangular carpet planks you can recreate several of the installation patterns that can be created with square tiles such as monolithic ashlar and brick layouts. This pattern is an arrangement of tiles or planks on alternating sides of a centerline. Once your flooring is down install shoe molding to cover the expansion gap between the flooring and the base trim.

A random pattern can be hard to achieve when all the planks are the same length but you can do it using offcuts from previous rows to start new rows. A laminate flooring stagger pattern is ideally random with spacing between end joints between 6 and 10 inches depending on the plank width. Finish the molding to match the trim not the flooring.
